Age 16 to 19

Batool Showgi

Batool Showghi was born in Iran and moved to England in 1985. She received an MA in Design & Media Arts from the University of Westminster in 1997 just after finishing her BA honours from the London Guildhall University. Since then she has dedicated her time to her art and exhibiting her work in both solo and group exhibitions in England and abroad.

Her works can be found in the collections of Tate Britain and the British Library and many other public and private collections.

Her artwork is concerned with her cultural heritage, memory, identity and loss. She wants to examine the physical limits that women can experience with regard to cultural and religious boundaries.

Creative Prompt

Is there a political event or subject which makes you feel a deep sense of injustice? Poems can convey strong emotions in helpful ways. We need to choose our words with care and precision, ensuring each one speaks to the reader and perhaps inspires them to see the world through impassioned eyes.

Focus on a piece of news, event or situation which would provoke you to protest. Put that strength of feeling into your poem. Remember spacing. And line breaks. Make your poem march!
