The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service

Tuesday 2nd July 2019

On Tuesday 2nd July 2019, The Sunbury Embroidery Gallery welcomed the return of HRH Princess Alexandra who presented our volunteers with The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.

The afternoon visit, which included a viewing of the Sunbury Millennium Embroidery, was attended by a group of 80 of the 175 volunteers who have been involved with the project since its inception back in 1995.

With the support of our core and dedicated team of over 45 volunteers, the Sunbury Gallery & Café is open 300 days a year and receives 45,000 visitors annually.

Since opening in the summer of 2006 we have welcomed over 500,000 visitors, staged over 110 exhibitions featuring the work of 300 artists, run over 200 workshops and developed a community outreach programme involving local schools for children with special needs.
